From karina at oberlin.net Mon Dec 4 20:18:19 2006 From: karina at oberlin.net (Karina Leppik) Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 20:18:19 -0500 Subject: [OMD-SC] 12-4 minutes Message-ID: Hi, all. Attached are the minutes from this evening's conference call. Please note that the next conference call will be Monday January 8 at 7:30 PM. (This is changed from our usual pattern of the first Monday of the month to avoid New Years Day.) One item in the minutes that I'd like to highlight is that we need to get organized about fundraising. If anyone knows of anyone who would be interested in being the fundraising coordinator (currently vacant) please let me know. We will be spending some time in January brainstorming a concrete fundraising plan. I hope you all have a great holiday, and I'll talk to you in January! What you should know about my work right now is: * I have been in dialogue with the young adult planners of SI in regards to feedback I have heard from young adults about the program. Actually, if any of you attended SI last year, I would love to know what you thought of the program and what recommendations you have. * I am continuing to attempt to get the connections made for Groundwork to happen. As Bree and Liz can attest, this is not going well. However, I expect that the conference will happen, just somewhat last minute. * I have sat down with a member of the district assembly planning committee, received details about their plans, and asked plenty of questions. Those questions will go to the district assembly planning committee meeting happening this Friday and hopefully I'll receive answers soon. Then the district assembly young adult group will be able to start planning. - Subquestion--if district assembly costs $40 for young adults (under 25, probably) and includes Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast and lunch, will that restrict your attendance? Do you think it will restrict other young adult attendance? What do all of you need/want from me in terms of fundraising? Would it be helpful to know what other districts do? Any other questions I can help gather information for? And...one more little thing that might be fun for all of you to know, the experiential conflict resolution theater games that I shared with some of you last spring will be going to General Assembly as one of the C*UUYAN sponsored workshops. Aaron McEmrys (the person I developed that piece with) will be leading the workshop together! Again, I am embarrassed to have lost track of the time in the rest of life! I hope you all are well. Are people having good luck at not missing these? Because if not I would be happy to be part of a phone chain right before the call, I'm so sorry for missing. I can't open these .mim files, so there must be others who can't... forgive me but in the interest of accessibility I just don't understand why the minutes can't just be a text email. Anyone with internet can get text, and people using a library computer, for example, cannot download. Just my $.02. alyssa -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Here are a few thoughts I had to share: Karina- Could you both attach the minutes from the call and then copy and paste them into the email? that way i think everyone can have access to them. Also, I have no amazing ideas for fundraising but would be extremely interested in running for treasurer once it becomes an official position. I can commit to tracking finances, not raising them. I believe Alyssa has had some great ideas for fundraisers in the past...Alyssa could you send those out if you remember them? Ellen-I personally cannot afford $40 for our district assembly, and I believe that the option for people interested in attending (not just YAs, but other UUs experiencing true financial hardship), could be the option of making a percentage payment, or a separate fee for attending the meetings but choosing not to eat the food and REALLY not eating it or whatever. -e --- Gatsby9 at aol.com wrote: > Doh, sorry, I fell asleep and missed the con call. > Are people having good > luck at not missing these? If there is anyone other than Alyssa who has problems opening attachments, please let me know, and I'll put you on a list to send all items in the text. I also try to put items in pdf format, which web-browser e-mail programs generally have an easier time opening.) As far as the district assembly, I'm over 25 so how much would it be for me? $40 is kind of pushing it to begin with for being there for 2 days, so if it's even more if you're over 25 I might not be able to make it. I like Erin's idea of doing a percentage payment or not eating the food or something, but if the church is somewhere were there's not a lot of food that's going to be a problem.
