1. Welcome from Leanne Todd, C*UUYAN Conferences Planning Committee
Chair

As we move into November, the weather is changing, the leaves
are falling and we all begin to settle into the winter season. I look
back on the last few months of continental events, district conferences
and the potlucks and services in my local congregation and am renewed by
all the passion I see people putting into our faith community. This is
traditionally a busy time for those of us conference planning, with
district events just wrapping up and continental staff selection just
around the corner we all buckle down for the many conference calls to
come.

Many of you who have not had much involvement with the
continental community are probably sitting there wondering what I'm
talking about. C *UUYAN (Continental UU YA Network) sponsors several
events throughout the year but we have three large conferences that fall
during the summer months each year: General Assembly Young Adult Caucus
(June 20-24, 2007 in Portland, OR), ConCentric (August 9-14, 2007 in
Toronto, Ontario) and Opus (August 15-19, 2007 also in Toronto, Ontario)
[note the change in conference order for 2007]. They are a great
opportunity for people to get involved with the continental community.
There is more information below on what the themes of the conferences
are and how you can get involved but I would like to share with you how
I became involved with continental events.

In the spring of 2002, I was asked to represent my district, the
Pacific Northwest, at Opus and ConCentric that summer. I was a bit
apprehensive, having just turned 19 and with little involvement so far
in my district young adult community. Opus and ConCentric were held in
Blaine, WA that year, so it was a short three-hour drive for me from my
house in Seattle to get to the site. I was in love. The people, the
workshops, the worships and most importantly the one-on-one connections
I forged with those around me left me feeling excited to be a part of
the community. That experience energized me to apply for staff in 2003.
I ended up as the Opus/ConCentric Transportation Coordinator in 2003 and
2004. From there I moved into the position of ConCentric Facilitator for
the 2004-2006 term and most recently, was elected to the position of CPC
Chair this past August. But it all started with overcoming my fears of
being new to the community and not knowing anyone.

I hope you all have a wonderful month and I look forward to
seeing some new faces in our leadership applicant pool, as well as
familiar ones. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have
about the application process or the Conferences Planning Committee in
general.

	Many thanks,

	Leanne Todd

6. Queer Young Adult Email List

The Office of Young Adult and Campus Ministry has created a new
email list for queer-identified young adults-as a means of increased
communication and planning for future events of particular interest to
queer young adults within our denomination.

If you'd like to be subscribed to this list, please send your
email address to Nancy DiGiovanni, Program Associate in the YACM office,
at ndigiovanni at uua.org.

For now, besides this list, I'm also collaborating with the YRUU
(Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) office, Interweave and other
queer-identified young adult leaders to build a stronger young adult and
youth presence at Interweave Convocation, February 9-11 in Atlanta, GA.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS and please contact: Nancy at ndigiovanni at uua.org or
the Youth Ministry Associates: Beth Dana, Laura Manning and Kat
Manker-Seale at yruu at uua.org if you'd like to be involved in planning
this event.
