=========================================================
1. Welcome from Claire Sexton, C*UUYAN Conferences Planning Committee
========================================================
Greetings My Friends!
This is an exciting time for me to be writing to all of you. A few weeks ago the Conferences Planning Committee had a great and productive meeting, congruent with the Steering Committee. Sometimes we even met together and worked out a few policies between us. One thing in particular we wrapped up was a re-evaluation of the C*UUYAN elections process for General Assembly, Opus, and ConCentric. Look for it soon, especially if you're thinking about running for a leadership position in C*UUYAN! And if you haven't thought about becoming a part of C*UUYAN leadership, maybe now is the time!
Another reason I'm excited to be writing is that I'm just wrapping up with the very first of the four Radius regional leadership development and networking conferences. Things have gone really well and we've got a lot of awesome feedback and suggestions to make the rest of the Radius (Radii?) even better. Check into whether you're closer to the West, South or Central Radius so you don't miss out on an exciting opportunity to meet new people and learn from them! Scholarships are available, so apply early!
With love,
Claire Sexton

3. May 1, 2006: Call to Action for Immigrant Rights!
=========================================================
On May 1, the National Immigrant Solidarity Network is calling a General Strike for No Work, No School, No Sales, and No Buying, and also to have rallies around symbols of economic trade in your areas (stock exchanges, anti-immigrant corporations, etc.) to protest the anti-immigrant movements across the country.
http://www.nohr4437.org/
The UUA issued a statement in support of immigrant rights on April 13,2006. The statement, made by the Rev. William G. Sinkford, President, is grounded in the Association's commitment to immigrant rights and justice and equality for all persons and is directly tied to four of the Association's seven principles:
* The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
* Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
* The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
* Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
For more information on the UUA and immigrant rights go to: http://www.uua.org/news/immigration/
>From Interfaith Worker Justice - http://www.iwj.org/actnow/imm/immigration.html :
As people of faith, we recognize and honor the social and economic contributions made by immigrant workers. We believe that all workers must enjoy basic human rights, civil rights and labor rights, regardless of their national origin or immigration status.
America deserves a more just and democratic immigration system that protects the interests of all workers-both immigrant and U.S. born.

Opus 2006 - Heartstrings: Welcome Home - August 11-16, 2006
What is the meaning of family? What are we willing to do to find our true home? Is it a comfort to know that you are never truly alone, or do you seek the peacefulness of solitude? Are we each wanderers in search of home, or do we try to create it where we are right now? No matter what home and hearth mean to us, many of us seek a sacred space for solace, for joy, and for serenity. Come join a community of friends and peers at Heartstrings: Welcome Home, this year's spiritual retreat for C*UUYAN. Here we will explore our own dreams of family, the power of friendship, and the resilience of home.
ConCentric 2006: - Spark the Spirit - Ignite the Fire - Be the Force for Change
-August 17-20, 2006
ConCentric is the annual business meeting and leadership development conference of C*UUYAN, the Continental UU Young Adult (18-35) Network. C*UUYAN is made up of districts comprised of grassroots groups, including local congregational young adult groups and campus ministries. ConCentric welcomes District Representatives, Young Adult and Campus Ministry (YACM) leaders, Regional Organizing Consultants, district organizers, and experienced allies, and any Unitarian Universalist young adults interested in becoming active in YACM leadership on the local, district, or continental level. As ConCentric gathers creative, experienced and new leaders from across the continent, we engage in networking, participate in workshops and trainings that offer tools and tactics to help build meaningful and sustainable religious communities across the continent and the world.
ConCentric 2006: Spark the Spirit - Ignite the Fire - Be the Force for Change will offer leaders the opportunity to nurture their spirit and learn skills to empower the communities they work with to be the force for change. Come to meet people, network, participate in the CUUYAN leadership community--with fun in all--and leave revitalized about the powerful work we do.

8. Young Adult Ecumenical Forum: Globalization and Violence
======================================================
What: 2006 Young Adult Ecumenical Forum on Globalization and Violence
Where: Hyde Park Neighborhood, Chicago, Illinois
When: August 3-6, 2006
The Topic: Globalization and Violence
As the world is becoming increasingly more connected, great opportunities have emerged for cooperation across geographic and cultural divides. However, greater interaction has often led to violence rather than cooperation. History reflects this problem clearly. Explorers "discovering" new lands have fought with the indigenous people. Immigrants in a new land have been attacked by a fearful majority. Terrorists cross cultural, religious, and geographic boundaries to strike fear in those with whom they disagree.
As members of the global ecumenical community, it is critical that we understand both the positive and negative aspects of globalization. We must examine how we as Christians participate in globalization, either positively or negatively. In what ways do Christians contribute to violence in an increasingly globalized world? How does globalization affect Christian attempts at peacemaking? What guidance can be found in Christian scripture, theology, and tradition to help contemporary Christians face a complex world?
The Context: Young Adults in the Christian Ecumenical Movement
The Purpose of the 2006 Young Adult Ecumenical Forum is to provide Christian young adults with the space to discuss the issues of globalization and violence that are facing today's world and to explore the ways in which their faith will shape their response to these issues. Through the Forum, participants will deepen their understanding of globalization and violence with the help of 6 plenary speakers, a variety of paper presentations, and opportunities for ecumenical dialogue. While respecting the diversity of the body of Christ, each participant will be encouraged to take on leadership roles within their own community and will be provided with the resources to begin local action in whatever way they deem appropriate.
We invite papers examining topics such as:
domestic violence * gang violence * just war theory * crusades * peacemaking techniques * police brutality * ethnic conflict * religious conflict * pacifism * civil disobedience * genocide * hate crimes * theology of justice * divine wrath in the Bible * militarism * colonialism * nuclear proliferation
This national conference is designed for young adults, ages 18-35, both students and non-students. Proposals with practical implications are especially welcome. Please limit your proposals to 300 words. Proposals are due by Friday, April 21st to yaef06 at gmail.com. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Friday, May 12th, and will be asked to present either August 4th or 5th, 2006.

9. Young Adult Religious Education Curricula Survey
====================================================
Dear Young Adults and Religious Professionals -
The Office of Young Adult & Campus Ministry seeks your input about existing Curriculas relevant or well-suited for adaptation for the 18-35 (or subset) age range. We are working to identify those curriculas that best meet the spiritual and life needs and make Unitarian Universalism meaningful for young adults, including newcomers and youth bridgers (post-high).
A full list of UUA curricula is available here online: http://www.uua.org/re/currmap/allcurricula.php
Currently we have received positive feedback on the following UU curricula:
1) Weaving the Fabric of Diversity (identity, anti-oppression)
2) Our Whole Lives (sexuality - note: new Young Adult OWL in the works for 2007)
3) Articulating Your Faith (UU history and theology)
4) Building Your Own Theology
Our hope is to identify 6-8 curriculas, provide notes for adaptation and context for teaching/facilitating with young adults, and offer to congregations a supplemental resource. We are thinking strategically about new ways our congregations can minister to young adults within our capacity. Whether a church has a young adult and/or campus group, we would like to see congregations offer a RE class for young adults (or young adult centered) each Fall and Spring as able.
Already we've been in touch with congregations that have found great success with intentionally focused RE for young adults, with positive feedback from newcomers, high and consistence attendance, and a buzz around finding meaning in the congregational setting.
SURVEY:
1. Have you ever used RE curricula with young adults? Have you ever developed your own curricula specifically for young adults? If so which ones?
2. What RE curriculas would you recommend for young adults?
3. What tips would you have for teachers/facilitators of RE curriculums in working with young adults?
4. What tips or ideas would you have for encouraging congregations to implement young adult friendly/focused RE classes?
5. Any other comments?
Please return by May 1st, 2006 to Joseph Santos-Lyons, UUA Office of Young Adult & Campus Ministry. jsantoslyons at uua.org
Thanks for your help with this, your voice helps to shape our work.

10. Field Testers needed for Young Adult OWL: Our Whole Lives for Young Adults!
=====================================================
UU Congregations & Campus Groups:
Call for Fall 2006 field-testers for. . .
Our Whole Lives: Sexuality Education for Young Adults
A new component of the comprehensive sexuality education series,
designed for young adults, ages 18-35
The Lifespan Faith Development staff group of the Unitarian Universalist Association is seeking congregations and campus groups to field-test a 14-workshop sexuality and religious education program. Coupled with Sexuality and Our Faith: a Companion to Our Whole Lives for Young Adults, field testers will offer a workshop series that connects sexual development with spiritual and religious growth.
Though the previously-published Our Whole Lives for adults can be used with young adults, the new Our Whole Lives for young adults will focus more intently on the sexual developmental issues of younger adults: forming relationships, making decisions about commitment and family, coming to terms with one's sexual identity, and grappling with newfound freedoms. Further, the young adult Our Whole Lives includes more information about safer sex and the biology of sexuality than does Our Whole Lives for adults.
Site Requirements
* A gender-diverse co-leadership team of two to four adults, each having been trained as Our Whole Lives facilitators for another component of the curriculum.
* Ten to twenty young adult participants.
Program Workshop Sessions
* Opening
* Sexual Language and Body Image
* Sexual Pleasure
* Sexual Health
* Gender Identity and Roles
* Sexual Orientation
* Communication
* Relationships
* Consent and Sexual Assault
* Commitment
* Family Matters
* Sexual Expression
* Advocacy for Sexuality Education
* Closing
Interested in field-testing between September and December 2006? Write for more information and an application. Applications due by May 15, 2006.
Please contact: Rev. Sarah Gibb
UUA Adult Programs Director
Lifespan Faith Development Staff Group
25 Beacon Street; Boston, MA 02108

11. Star Island Young Adult Conference
========================================================
We invite you to join us at the Young Adult Conference on Star Island, June 16
to June 19, a great relaxing way to start your summer in a beautiful place with
some fabulous people. Located off the coast of New Hampshire, Star Island is a
rustic soothing break from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. No phones, no
TVs, no cars, just the crisp clean ocean breeze and the sounds of seagulls and
laughter across the lawn. We have various workshops and activities planned
throughout the day (writing, yoga, crafts, music/song writing, Islam & Judaism
discussion, movie making, softball, worship...) but sleeping, reading and eating
ice cream all day are also perfectly fine by us. In recent years our conference
has really started to take off. Last year 80 folks from around the country
attended. We are a diverse crowd mostly in our 20's and 30's who enjoy each
other's company and truly welcome yours. The Young Adults Conference offers a
unique opportunity to experience the star island community when you're too old
for a youth conference and not yet ready to join a family conference. Please,
join us.
Go to bigyacattack.com for more info about the conference, and
www.starisland.org for more info about about star island. Or contact Stacy Farr,
