1. Welcome from Joseph Santos-Lyons, UUA Director of Campus Ministry & Field Organizing
=========================================================
Dear UU Young Adults & Allies,
April 15 "tax day" has come and passed, a date on the calendar that seems to become more significant each year for me. With new family and child, there are so many pieces to juggle and while taxes have an underlying stress associated with them, they are an opportunity for reflection on another year. Something like a second New Years. We hope you are doing well as spring is here, daylight savings time and the Spring Solstice have passed, and you are anticipating the days of summer. At the YA-CM Office these are our busiest days gearing up for GA (June-Ft Worth), Opus (Aug-Iowa), & ConCentric (Aug-Iowa).
In the next two months we have the 2nd YA-CM Training of Trainers in DC, Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression Youth-Youth Adult Transformation Team meeting in Boston, and dozens of teleconferences for conference planning and a new C*UUYAN Regional Leadership Development & Networking Needs Task Force (chaired by Ella Hereth). I will be traveling to the UU Church of the Philippines April 22-May 9 meeting with young adults and spending 3 days in Korea with fellow adoptees.
For those of you in UU Campus Ministries, you are likely wrapping up your year. How do you want to stay connected with Unitarian Universalism over the summer? My experience in the Portland UU Young Adult Group (OR) is that the summer is both a time for reduced regular meetings and an opportunity for special events such as camping, retreats and community-building socials. If you haven't connected with a local YA-CM group, consider checking one out using our Group Finder at www.ConnectUU.com <http://www.connectuu.com/> .
May peace guide and hold you -
Joseph Santos-Lyons
UUA Director of Campus Ministry & Field Organizing.

2. REGISTER FOR OPUS AND CONCENTRIC 2005!
===============================================================
Yes folks, that's right! Online registration for Opus and ConCentric 2005 is Officially OPEN!
Register TODAY on the Opus and ConCentric event pages at www.connectuu.com <http://www.connectuu.com/> , and don't forget to check out Expressions in Color, the pre-Opus People of Color retreat!
Opus 2005: Who We Art: Spirituality and Art in the Heartland: How do you express the sacred? How do you divulge your thoughts of the divine? Do you dance to convey your convictions or do you write to relinquish emotions? Does song seep out of you or do you find solace in the sciences? Whatever the mode, it is often our desire to find ways to express what our spirituality means to us. Come join us at Who We Art: Spirituality and Art in the Heartland, this year's theme for OPUS 2005, the C*UUYAN annual spiritual retreat. Here we will discover how we practice the sacred and the artist that lies within us as well as unknown gifts we possess, yet to be unearthed.
ConCentric 2005: Weaving Our Web: Developing Interconnections Within and Beyond: ConCentric is the annual meeting of C*UUYAN, the Continental Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network. Young adults are helping to lead our spiritual movement to become more radically inclusive and justice-centered. This year's conference will encourage and help UU young adult leaders to develop a sense of well-being in ourselves, our communities, and the world. Come join other UU young adult leaders at Camp Hantesa near Boone, Iowa where we will weave together, ways of strengthening our young adult movement. District representatives and participants will have an opportunity to network with each other and learn from the experiences of other UU Young Adults and the work they are doing in their congregations, districts and regions. This years workshops will be focused on developing strong local YA groups and connecting with each other on a national and international scale. We will focus on strengthening our inner-spiritual being in order to give us strength to foster our movement beyond ourselves and our current congregations. Join with us this August to Weave a strong Web that will ensure the continued success of our continental young adult movement.
Expressions in Color: A People of Color Pre-Opus Event:
In the spirit of love and justice we extend a warm welcome to Young Adults of Color to a pre-Opus overnight retreat in calm Iowa. Our vision is to nurture connections, improve our ability to express ourselves and continue to build positive race relations. Led by DRUUMM Young Adults, this 24 hour event promises to be rich in dialogue, creative work and peace making.

=========================================================
Religions and Social Struggle Travel Course to Mexico: July 23 to August 6
Contact: Colin Bossen, cbossen at mindspring.com , 773.834.4216 or Rev. Dr.
Susi Pangerl, spangerl at meadville.edu, 773.256.3000 x227
1 credit, 2-week study abroad program and the relationship between religion and social struggle in Mexico
A Meadville Lombard Theological School (affiliated with the University of Chicago) course organized with the Chiapas Peace House Project
This two week course will explore the role that religions play in social struggle in both urban and rural Mexico. The course will be split between Mexico City and Chiapas. Throughout the course students will meet with a variety of non-governmental, religious, indigenous, labor and social justice organizations. The course is open to college and graduate students and activists and religions professionals.
The central questions of the course will be: How do different religions shape the development of social movements? What role should it play?
Special attention will be paid to the roles of Evangelical Christianity, Catholicism and various indigenous religions. While academic rigor is strongly encouraged this will be a primarily experiential course and students will travel as a group to Mexico for two weeks to learn about social struggles first hand.
Meadville Lombard Theological School educates people for effective, morally responsible Unitarian Universalist ministries and advances liberal religious scholarship for a diverse and multicultural world community. The instructors for the course are the Rev. Dr. Susi Pangerl, Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Academic Dean, and Colin Bossen, co-founder of the Chiapas Peace House Project.
Students will pay a program fee of $1200 in addition to regular tuition
($1195 for credit/$395 for audit). This will cover travel, housing and
the cost of the program within Mexico. Students will be responsible for their own travel to and from Mexico City. Registration opens March 15, 2005 and closes May 5, 2005.

7. Internship Opportunity: Save Darfur Coalition
=========================================================
The Save Darfur Coalition (of which the UUA is a member) is seeking interns
(see below) The coalition does great work, information about which is available at www.savedarfur.org <http://www.savedarfur.org/> While the UUA Washington Office cannot offer housing, we can keep our eyes open for cheap summer housing if there are folks who might be interested. I would also be happy to welcome to DC and All Souls Unitarian Church anyone interested in applying for the Save Darfur internship and help get them settled in.
>From SaveDarfur.org:
"We are seeking summer interns to work with us in Washington to tackle a wide variety of tasks. If you have shown a commitment to peace in Darfur, can find a place to stay in Washington, and can live on a very small housing stipend, please send a couple of paragraphs about your background and interests to interns at savedarfur.org ."
Respectfully Submitted,

Unitarian Universalist Campus/Young Adult Ministry is one of the significant institutional and religious commitments to providing spiritual care, growth and community for a transitional population within and external to our member congregations. Managing the development and nurturing vibrant campus/young adult ministry is an extraordinary challenge with inconsistent funding, few mentors and minimal history. This seminar not only provides intimate connections with others active as staff (paid or volunteer) but teaches the principles, philosophies and frameworks of successful campus/young adult ministry groups and congregational programs.

The "Level 1: Intro" training promises to provide participants with the theological and organizational framework for organizing UUCM, fostering campus-congregation connections, building relationships and introducing UUCM Resources including outreach, internet, curricula and leadership support. 1 ½ days usually Friday night through Saturday 5 PM.
The "Level 2: Intermediate" training is a *new* effort to lead participants through a deeper exploration of issues such as spiritual development/worship, social justice, growth and outreach. 4 hours to 1 day.
