1. Welcome from Petra Aldrich, Program Associate, UUA Office of Young
Adult and Campus Ministry
===============================================================

Hey Everyone, Happy December!

Winter has finally begun for real, and it certainly is chilly in Boston
these days. This is a busy time of year for everyone, both personally
and professionally. Director Michael Tino has finished a very rewarding
hospital chaplaincy internship, and is gearing up for extraordinarily
busy spring of conferences and trainings. Campus Ministry and Field
Organizing Director Joseph Lyons is back from an exciting and productive
trip to the Philippines. Erik Kesting, our Office Administrator, is
working hard keeping our web site up-to-date and useful, and preparing
for the 2005 Bridge Connections program. I have been working closely
with the C*UUYAN Conferences Planning Committee and the 2005
Conference's Core Leadership Teams on things like budgeting and staff
selection for their conferences, as well as preparing for the February
Anti-Racism Analysis Development Conferences (ARADCs) with the Youth
Office and the UUA Staff Anti-Racism and Identity Development Resources
Working Group for Youth and Young Adults (ARID).

We hope you enjoy this edition of C*UUYAN-Announce. As always, feel free
to send submissions for the newsletter to me. Thanks, and have a happy
holiday season.

In faith,

Petra Aldrich

Announcing the Theme for Opus 2005: Who We Art: Spirituality and Art in
the Heartland

How do you express the sacred? How do you divulge your thoughts of the
divine? Do you dance to convey your convictions or do you write to
relinquish emotions? Does song seep out of you or do you find solace in
the sciences? Whatever the mode, it is often our desire to find ways to
express what our spirituality means to us. Come join us at Who We Art:
Spirituality and Art in the Heartland, this year's theme for OPUS 2005,
the C*UUYAN annual spiritual retreat. Here we will discover how we
practice the sacred and the artist that lies within us as well as
unknown gifts we possess, yet to be unearthed.

Opus will be held at Camp Hantesa www.hantesa.com
<http://www.hantesa.com/> in Boone Iowa, from August 6 - 11, 2005.

Apply for staff positions:

And the Theme for ConCentric 2005: Weaving Our Web: Developing
Interconnections Within and Beyond

ConCentric is the annual meeting of C*UUYAN, the Continental Unitarian
Universalist Young Adult Network. Young adults are helping to lead our
spiritual movement to become more radically inclusive and
justice-centered. This year's conference will encourage and help UU
young adult leaders to develop a sense of well-being in ourselves, our
communities, and the world. Come join other UU young adult leaders at
Camp Hantesa near Boone, Iowa where we will weave together, ways of
strengthening our young adult movement. District representatives and
participants will have an opportunity to network with each other and
learn from the experiences of other UU Young Adults and the work they
are doing in their congregations, districts and regions. This years
workshops will be focused on developing strong local YA groups and
connecting with each other on a national and international scale. We
will focus on strengthening our inner-spiritual being in order to give
us strength to foster our movement beyond ourselves and our current
congregations. Join with us this August to weave a strong Web that will
ensure the continued success of our continental young adult movement.

ConCentric will be held at Camp Hantesa www.hantesa.com
<http://www.hantesa.com/> in Boone Iowa, from August 12 - 15, 2005.

5. Job Opportunity: ADC Educational Outreach Fellowship

=======================================================================

Deadline for Applications: December 20

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is seeking a
recent or

2005 graduate or new professional who interested in pursuing a career in
education designed to promote the rich cultural heritage of Arab
Americans and immigrants from the Arab world. The person selected will
join ADC in an application for a two-year fellowship grant. The grant
will fund the position of Assistant Director in the ADC Education and
Outreach Department.

The ADC Education Department manages a program of national and
grassroots outreach to k-12 educators. It works directly with teachers
and educational institutions on a national level. On a grassroots level,
it operates through ADC's network of chapters, activists and parents in
order to encourage more active Arab-American involvement in their
neighborhood schools. The program promotes better understanding of Arab
Americans and prevents anti-Arab discrimination. The department also
manages the ADC intern program to develop a new generation of
Arab-American leaders. The grant under consideration is from a
leadership development grant program that assists nonprofit
organizations and professionals entering fields related to human rights
and social justice. The program is designed to help community-based and
nonprofit organizations bring innovative, fresh talent to their staffs
and to cultivate and strengthen the leadership potential of these new
voices.

The fellowship provides financial assistance, training, and other
opportunities for personal and professional development, including
monitoring and an annual salary of up to $35,000, plus benefits.

Qualifications: Knowledge of the Arab-American community, Arab culture,
and the Arab world is essential. Arabic language skills are not
required.

Applicants must be available to begin work in Washington, DC, not later
than the last week of May 2005. The position requires a two-year
commitment.

Applications to ADC: Applications should include a resume, a cover
letter outlining career plans; campus or community activities;
experience with the Arab-American community/Arab world; two letters of
recommendation; and an official transcript of grades. If other materials
are not immediately available, applicants should send a resume and cover
letter immediately to Marvin Wingfield at: marvinw at adc.org

Deadlines: The deadline for applications to ADC is December 20. ADC will
select a candidate. Then all materials must be submitted to the granting
institution by January 10. The grantor will announce awards on April 20.

This program is administered through ADC's educational affiliate, the
ADC Research Institute (ADCRI).

6. Bi/Multi-Racial Unitarian Universalist Caucus

========================================================================

Greetings to A/PIC, YRUU YC, UUYAN (or if this is not the UUYAN mailing
list, could somebody please forward it accordingly, thanx!), and Hafidha
(could you please forward this to the rest of the DRUUMM mailing list,
thanx!),

I am writing this e-mail to inform you all about a new and (i think)
very exciting caucus that is just being born. I am Kelli Eng, the
daughter of incumbent A/PIC treasurer Karen Eng, and I am organizing the
bi-multi racial Unitarian Universalist caucus. To the YRUU YCRs and
UUYAN (or whatever representative this is going to), please inform those
in your constituency and encourage any bi-multi racial youth/young
adults in your districts who would be interested to contact me. To A/PIC
and DRUUMM, if any of you are interested or if any of you know anyone
who might be interested, please contact me and let me know. At the
moment I am just trying to come up with a group of people who would be
interested in being a part of this and who i can add to my
soon-to-be-created yahoo mailing group so that we can start dialoguing
about future plans. This caucus is still in its most infant stages and
any suggestions, ideas, or volunteer organizers are much appreciated.

In faith and spiritual growth,

Kelli Eng (First Unitarian Church of Oakland, JTW steering committee
member, YRUU PoCC rep, female PoC ID group coordinator, president, and
only member, of the bi-multi racial UUs steering committee)
